Hi. I am currently developing my site and I am thinking on how I can promote it to gain some visitors. Can you share some helpful information I can use to promote my site whenever it is already up. Thanks.

Buying siglinks/joining forums and putting your site in the sig is a start. If you have the cash you could use adwords. Buy link/banner space on other sites or do a link exchange.

Some things you can do is:

• Use Adsense

• Make a monthly competition

• Have a forum posting competition

• Submit to web directories

• Give away free gifts

If you are looking for free adversting then you have to consider this :
1 - Post your site link to Digg.com and ask your friends to digg your articles ( you can get a lot of visiters )
2 - Stumble your site and all your pages and ask your friends to do the same ( you will get big traffic too for long time )
3 - join forums witk your domain as your username , and to link to it in your signature and avatar space .

Out of all those, the web directories is the only form of PROMOTION. Using all those other things won't bring any visitors if you don't tell others about it.

Well how can you expect traffic from stumbles and diggs if you don't tell people about it? Contests will bring a lot of visitors and so will free gifts if you promote them the right way... Adsense will bring people to your site if you write a good ad and do it properly.

@OP - Not sure about this one but you could also use alexa surf thing that will bring people to your site.

And by adsense do you mean adwords? putting adsense on your site won't bring any visitors.
